There was no fiercer rivalry in the late 1960s and early 1970s than that between Richmond and Carlton. It was brilliant, it was brutal, and above all it was memorable, as two teams stacked with talent strove to become the greatest in the VFL.

Having lost the 1972 Grand Final in a shootout to Carlton, Richmond was relentless in its desire to settle the score in 1973; a ferocious assault that culminated in a famous triumph, the first of back-to-back premierships.
